The Farriers Anvil is the optimum tool required to correctly finish the shoe.  Although anvils come in a multitude of sizes, shapes and weights, insure that the horns are designed and radius-ed for fine tuning the fit of the horseshoe.  Often Farriers work with an Anvil of around 70 pounds for ease of transportation. However, most professional tradesmen will tell you that the heavier the weight the better control for shaping of the metal.
